What is Beam Catch + Lock?
With Leica Rugby lasers, Beam Catch + Lock is an automatic feature that uses a compatible laser receiver to find the laser beam, align the laser plane to the receiver, and then continuously monitor that position.
- Beam Catch — You position the receiver at the elevation or slope you want. The Rugby automatically searches for the receiver and adjusts the laser plane until the beam hits the receiver’s on-grade position. This eliminates manually adjusting the slope or repeatedly moving the laser.
- Beam Lock — After the beam has been caught, the receiver stays in position and continuously monitors the laser beam. If the laser plane shifts, the system can correct/maintain the established grade, helping protect against errors caused by movement or changing conditions.
- Catch + Lock together — Essentially: “Find my receiver, set the laser plane to it, then keep it there.”
For the new Rugby 60DG, this is particularly useful for grading, drainage, excavation, batterboards, slope matching, and long-distance site work. The Rugby 60DG paired with the Rod Eye 105B supports automatic beam catching/monitoring.
